After a few lean years in terms of home fixtures, the Proteas will enjoy numerous internationals for their 2024/2025 home season, with India, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan all visiting South African shores. India will play 4 T20 Internationals against the Proteas, Sri Lanka will play 2 test matches, and Pakistan will compete in 3 T20 Internationals, 3 One-Day Internationals, and a two-test match series.
Check out our preview of the Proteas 2024/2025 home season.
Proteas on the Rise?
The Proteas have had mixed results of late, especially in limited-overs cricket, but the team seems to be on a good track in test cricket after beating the West Indies 1-0 and Bangladesh 2-0, both away from home. And while the Proteas have lost most of its bilateral T20 series, the team did reach the final of the 20224 T20 World Cup, where it was agonisingly beaten in the final by India by 7 runs.
It can be expected that limited overs coach Rob Walter will continue trying out inexperienced players in the T20 series, which may lead to some mixed results. But the team could be quite strong for its ODI series against Pakistan as well as its test series against Sri Lanka and Pakistan.
T20I Series: South Africa v India
Preview:
The Proteas team for its 4-match T20 International series against India will include a good mix of youth and experience, with debutants Mihlali Mpongwana and Andile Simelane supported by experienced heads such as David Miller, Heinrich Klassen, Keshav Maharaj and captain Aidan Markram. The Proteas will be eager to improve its recent form in bilateral T20I series, having lost 2 and drawn 1 of their last three T20I series. Expect the team to be fired up to improve on this recent record.

Test Series: South Africa v Sri Lanka
Preview:
The Proteas have had a dearth of test math fixtures of late, playing less than any other team in the current world Test Championship cycle. However, when playing, their record has been pretty good, having drawn 1-1 to India at home and beaten both West Indies and Bangladesh away from home. In between, the team lost a 2-match series 2-0 to New Zealand, mainly because almost all the Proteas’ top test players were engaged in the SA 20 tournament, and a highly inexperienced and untried team was sent to play in that series.
Sri Lanka has enjoyed success in South Africa in the recent past, shocking the Proteas with a 2-0 series win (their first test series win against the Proteas in South Africa) in 2019. The Proteas got revenge by winning the series 2-0 in 2020/2021, but it will be wary of a Sri Lankan team that recently beat New Zealand at home in a test match series.
The team will rely heavily on world No. 1 pace bowler Kagiso Rabada, as well as experienced batsman Aiden Makram and captain Temba Bavuma.

Pakistan Tour of South Africa
Preview
Pakistan will compete against the Proteas across all 3 formats. Pakistan has shown extremely inconsistent form of late, but recently bounced back from a massive innings defeat against England I the 1st test to win the series 2-1 at home. You never know what you’re’ going to get with Pakistan, but as always, it remains a dangerous and unpredictable team. The Pakistan fast bowlers may enjoy the fast, bouncy South African pitches, and this factor will be crucial as it attempts to win its first test series in South Africa.
