GbetsRocks appoint former Protea JP Duminy as new head coach
GbetsRocks have confirmed the appointment of cricket legend JP Duminy on an initial two-year deal.
The former Proteas all-rounder is a veteran of 199 ODIs and 46 test matches and captained the Proteas in both the T20 and ODI formats. Duminy previously served as a batting mentor to the Paarl Rocks and the Cape Cobras. His most recent assignments were as a strategic consultant to the national side during last year’s T20 World Cup in the UAE and Oman, and as batting coach to the Lions franchise.
“We are delighted that JP decided to accept our appointment. He understands and shares our vision for cricket in the region. Moreover, I have no doubt that JP will build on and enhance the winning culture we have established,” Cricket Boland CEO, James Fortuin said.
Duminy’s appointment as coach follows a thorough recruitment process and represents a new dawn for the franchise commented Boland President, Godwin von Willingh.
“When thinking about the Boland region, I was certainly astounded by how far it extends in terms of communities. And I realised anew the rich history the region has and especially the region’s love of sport … my interest and passion lie with serving and helping people become the best version of themselves. My heartbeat is to see players expand holistically. To facilitate and influence players in understanding their role in society goes far beyond their performance on the Cricket field,” says Duminy.
Team sponsor, Gbets, also expressed excitement and enthusiasm at the prospect of cricket legend JP Duminy leading GbetsRocks to further success and growing a constructive legacy for the community.
“As proud sponsors with a shared vision to succeed, Gbets is excited for the GbetsRocks team as they plan a fruitful future led by cricket legend JP Duminy. We are 100% confident that Duminy is the right man for the job, both in a professional and community-building sense. We also look forward to supporting this special team with integrity and witnessing GbetsRocks grow even further to be the powerhouse of South African cricket’’, says Goldrush Gaming Group CEO, Mergan Naidoo.
The GbetsRocks finished with a combined third log position in all CSA formats in the last season under former coach Adrian Birrell.
