Cricket in the Boland region received a significant boost with the imminent launch of the Goldrush Boland Super League (BSL). The league, which launches on 16 March 2024, is a community club-based T20 competition which was launched thanks to a partnership between Cricket Boland and Goldrush. Gbets is a part of the Goldrush Group.
Tournament Dynamics
The Goldrush BSL consists of 16 teams in the Boland area competing in four pools, including 10 Premier League clubs, four promotion league clubs (to be determined at the end of the current 2023/24 season) and two wildcard teams. The top two teams in every pool will advance to the quarterfinals, culminating in a day/night final at Boland Park on Saturday, 23 March 2024.
Pool A consists of the Krewe from Vredenburg/Saldanha, Darling, Piketberg and Wellington. In Pool B, Paarl, Bergrivier Young Peoples and Paarl East will seek a quarterfinal spot whilst Maties, Van der Stel, Stellenbosch and Vics will compete in Pool C. In Pool D, Robertson, Caledon, Worcester United and Hermanus will fight it out.
What’s new about it?
An exciting element of this new competition is the introduction of the pink ball that has been used for day/night test matches, and which will add some colour to the tournament’s early autumn festivities.
Where can I watch it?
Goldrush BSL’s first round was streamed live on YouTube, with further details to be furnished on Boland Rocks and Goldrush Online social channels.
What impact will the tournament have?
Cricket Boland CEO, James Fortuin, thanked Goldrush and explained the potential positive impact of the tournament.
“Boland club cricket is excited about the potential of this new competition and maintains that it will play a vital role in strengthening club cricket in the Boland region. I wish to thank Goldrush for teaming up with us as a brand partner; their partnership is invaluable in realising the goals of this tournament. I have no doubt that the Goldrush Boland Super League will be an aspirational tournament for the players, fans and those watching via live streaming, which is another component and value-add to this tournament”.
Why did Goldrush team up with Boland Cricket for the BSL?
Dwain Powell, MD of Goldrush Online, explains why:
‘’Goldrush is proud to put our name behind the Goldrush Boland Super League and is excited to partner with Boland Cricket. We’re invested in developing Boland cricket as well as the broader community and aim to ensure that the Goldrush BSL spotlights up-and-coming talent, celebrates excellence and is highly enjoyable for everyone involved. We urge lovers of cricket and the community to fill the match venues, where there will be great prizes and giveaways up for grabs on each match day”.
